The desktop computer already is connected to high speed Internet. It’s "ready" for WIFI. When I turn my laptop on a little message comes up that says "Wireless Network Connection is not connected" under that it says "Wireless network unavailable". When I click on that icon the message pops up from it has 3 different options.
1) Wireless Network Connection
Not connected
Broadcom 802.11g Network Adapter
2) Local Area Connection
Network cable unplugged
VIA Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapter
3)1394 Connection
Disabled
1394 Net Adapter

When I click the first option, "Wireless Network Connection", another window comes up that says "Choose a wireless network Click an item on the list below to connect to a wireless network in range or to get more information." Below it says "No wireless networks were found in range. Make sure the wireless switch on your computer is on. To see an updated list, click "Refresh network list"."
Also when I turn on my laptop a Zone Alarm pop up says "Zone Alarm Security Alert. Repeat Program. PC Tools Smart Update is trying to access the Internet". It says some other things too. So it sounds like it’s ready for WIFI but the desktop needs something. What do I need to do? Do I just turn something on? Do I have to have a wireless router and if I do how much does it cost generally. I think something like that is already built in and the same way with the laptop. So all I should have to do is turn it on on the desktop right? Or am I way off track? Please TRY to answer my question simply. I know it might be hard but I can’t understand a bunch of technical words. LOL! Oh and also 3 other things: I don’t want to use the Ethernet option. I want WIFI. Also the desktop computer CANNOT be wireless. Only the laptop can. Finally, what kind of protection can I get so people can’t hack into my computer through air signals? Thank you to anyone who can help!
